Dia De Los Muetros Blog Hop

 Hey Friends,

Welcome to the Dia De Los Muetros / Celebration of Life Blog Hop. If You  arrived here from Erika, then you are in the right spot. If not, don't worry, I will have the blog list at the bottom of this post so you can continue to hop along. You do not want to miss anyone on this hop it is FULL of some amazing talent out there.

If you do not know about Dia De Los Muetros, I will explain it to you before I go ahead and show you my project and video. Dia De Los Muetros is a holiday celebrated in Mexico and Latin American Countries on November 1st, where participants honor the dead, and celebrate and remember the lives they lived. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts.
As many of you know, I am from Puerto Rico, and unfortunately it is not a holiday that we celebrate there, but we do have All Saints Day which is similar-ish  :)
Today I will be honoring the Life of My Maternal Grandfather who passed away in 2006
 Don Pablo Garcia
My Grandfather was a great man! When he was young he dropped out of school in the 5th grade and went to work in order to help provide for his family. All his life he was a hardworker, and even though he worked hard for everything that he had, he always gave to those that were in need. In his village in Puerto Rico he had earned the title "Don" which means a man of great respect. The father of 6 Children  (the youngest my mother) he always provided everything he could within his means and made time for each and everyone one of his children no matter how tired he was from working.
My greatest memory of my grandfather was as a child, we would walk around his farm land and he would show me how to take care of all the animals. Together we would feed the chickens and the geese. Then we would collect vegetables and he would sit me on his lap and together we would split the beans.  He literally had a honest heart of gold, and I will always miss his smile, his hugs and the quality time we spent together.

I created this scrapbook page layout in memory of his life. I don't have the picture put on the page just yet because i have to dig through my mother's albums to get the picture i am thinking of, and have it copied.

The title reads Te Recuerdo " I remember you" Please click to view the picture full size, there is alot of detail in this layout.

I cut the skull from Rock Princess at 3 inches, and the roses at 1.5 inches
The candles are from Christmas, and cut at 4 inches,
The marquee shape is from Gypsy wanderings and cut at 7.75 and 8 inches respectively
The Ribbon beneath the photo mat is cut from winter frolic at .80 inches
I pretty much went doodle crazy on the layout.
The pattern paper is Basic Grey- Marrakech- Orchid Oolong (Discontinued)

Scrappy Moms Stamp Design Team Call

Hey Friends,

Now that the call is closed, I thought I would share with you the projects that I submitted. I'm very happy with how they turned out, and once again, I tried to use a cricut cartridge that I hardly ever use.

I created a 5x5 square card set. I was inspired by this hot pink paper that I found in my stash and wanted to try to make a few things with Rock princess
I cut the heart from Rock princess at 3 1/4 inches and I used the PKS Laffy Taffy Stamp set to give it a cute winking face. Then I used my Scrappy Moms stamp "Everyday Greetings" to stamp happy anniversy. I just love how this one came out. I also added some bling as well as stickles on the crown. The postage stamp shape is from gypsy wanderings
For this card, I wanted to do something a little different so i cut out 3 strips of white simmer paper at 3 different lengths and lined them up on my card front, From there I uused pop dots to add the sentiment piece. I cut the star trio from Rock Princess at 2 1/2 inches. I'm pretty sure i went overboard with the white stitching since the grograin ribbon had stiching on it. But I just love the white button with the bow. CUTE!
This last one is my favorite. I think it turned out so clean and fresh The two paper strips are actually on pop dots from the black card base then I tied the black satin ribbon around them and tied an actual bow  :) then I cut out my Pirate Cupcake from Rock princess and used the hide contour to hide the face, and used my Peachy Keen Princess Face stamps to give her a cutesy look. I used the d'vine swirl on her upper frosting and cherry,. and Did a little doodling. The sentiment is from the scrappy moms "Sweet Somethings" Stamp set. I added some bling and it was done. I think this came out so adorable!!

What do you think?

I will be back later today with a video. Today is a big posting day for me

Guest Designer on Card Creations

Hey Friends,

I hope you all enjoyed a peaceful and restful labor day. I was asked earlier in the week by Christina Brooks to join a guest designer on Card Creations and more. She is having a challenge over on her website where the challenge is to use bling and ribbon. I recently recieved my rock princess cricut cartridge in the mail and wanted to use it to create a project that wasn't so "rocker-ish" instead of using the suggested colors in the cricut cartridge manual.. blacks pinks, whites. I started with my ribbon choice which was a warm dark chocolate color. I then paried it with some carolyn gavin green house paper.

I loved how this card came out. I cut the butterfly at 2 inches, and found the scalloped circle shape on Sugar and Spice Cricut lite, though there are many cartridges that have this same exact shape on them!

I used the Mojo Monday sketch of the week to come up with the idea of the card. I just loved the thought of stamping the sentiment on a tag and suspending it from the ribbon. I added a brown eyelet and attached it with some hemp cord to add extra interested the coordinating button tied with hemp cord off finished it off.

This was actually a very simple card to make and I think I will use this sketch again in the future.
